Tutto Bene

Tutto Bene

Tutto Bene

Tutto Bene (G/F, 7 Knutsford Terrace, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon) — inexpensive, the food is well prepared by knowledgeable staff and the service is excellent. You can eat outside along the terrace and watch the rest of the world stroll by, or you can take a place at the back in a small garden or inside. The three-course dinner set menu is a bargain considering the quality and quantity of the food. The Squid-Ink Linguine is superb and you can get decent pizza and salad. The Beef Carpaccio is highly recommended.

The Peak Lookout

The Peak Lookout (121 Peak Road, The Peak, Hong Kong) — The Peak Lookout (a former tram station) is a tourist magnet… and with that comes tourist prices. However, the view on a clear day and the serene old-school ambience is enough to attract even us locals. The international menu covers the best dishes from around the world – steaks, curries, even nachos – and it’s also the perfect spot for a romantic date too.

The Grand Stage

The Grand Stage

The Grand Stage (2/F, Western Market, 323 Des Voeux Road Central, Seung Wan, Hong Kong) — within the Western Market tourist trap, The Grand Stage is a diamond in the rough. Presented as a huge luxurious theatre, the restaurant and function hall leave no stone unturned in making the experience as decadent as possible. Numerous weddings take place in this fantastic venue after the dim sum crowd is long gone, and the place oozes sophistication and grandeur perfect for making any special occasion go with a bang.

The French Window

The French Window

The French Window

The French Window (Shop 3101, 3/F, Tower 2, IFC Mall, No. 1 Harbour View Street, Central, Hong Kong) — Class, sophistication and elegance is the name of the game at The French Window. Although this restaurant is in the huge IFC complex, the further you enter, the more you forget about the mall. The decor is light and breezy, with giant windows boasting a heart-stopping harbor view whilst the beautifully presented and carefully created brasserie-style food is delicious. Expect only the best French cuisine (with a modern twist) in this restaurant; the Sunday brunch is always a winner.

The outlet offers New York deli favorites, such as Reuben sandwiches, pastrami on rye, hot corned beef, brisket, knishes, bagels, salads and chicken soup with matzoh balls.

Kiku

Kiku

Kiku

Kiku (B/F, The Landmark, 16 Des Voeux Road Central, Central, Hong Kong) — Kiku is deceptively large and its location in the upmarket Landmark makes for a vibrant, lively atmosphere, especially at lunchtime. Most diners are initially directed to the busy front-of-house section containing tightly-packed tables and muted decoration, but there is a range of small, comfortable booths scattered behind Japanese-style screens to the rear.

Lunch specials are popular but individual dishes drawn from either the raw fish or cooked sections provide a smorgasbord of tempting alternatives. Succulent cuts of sashimi are accompanied by deliciously spiced soy sauce. The ark shell is a permanent offering and highly recommended. Homemade sushi is predictably good and when presented as a roll, such as the soft shell crab and avocado, the range of textures and flavours impress. Other appetizers include satisfying strips of roast file fish dipped in a creamy sauce and moist spinach tossed in a fortified sesame sauce. Elsewhere, a generous chunk of cod cooked in miso sauce is very tasty. U.S. or wagyu beef dishes are available and the stir-fried sliced beef in a zesty ginger sauce is worth considering.
